Mali and the ADB sign a financing agreement of 52.82 billion for 5 projects. Prior to the signing of this agreement, the Minister of Economy and Finance Mr. Alousséni SANOU and the Country Manager of the African Development Bank Group Ms. Haly Louise Djoussou-Lorng signed 9 loan and grant agreements to finance five projects. The signing ceremony of these agreements took place this Thursday, November 19, 2020 in Bamako.

Fruitful cooperation between Mali and ADB


According to Minister Alousseni SANOU, this ceremony is special because it is part of the signing of a series of Financing Agreements following the full resumption of the rich and fruitful cooperation between the African Development Bank, no less the continent’s common institution, and Mali’s Transitional Government.

Thus of a total amount of about 50.82 billion FCFA, these nine Financing Agreements, are divided into grants and loans, allow to finance projects or programs namely : the COVID-19 Crisis Response Support Program in the G5 Sahel Countries (COVID-19 Park – G5 Sahel) in the form of budget support; the Development Program for the Special Agro-industrial Processing Zone of the Koulikoro and Peri-Urban Regions of Bamako (PDZSTA-KB); the Program for the Republic of Mali’s Membership in the African Trade Insurance Agency (ACA); the Exceptional Emergency Project in favor of Low-Income Countries, members of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the Health Systems Strengthening Project in The Gambia, Mali and Niger to combat the VIDC-19 Pandemic; and finally the project to support the development of the SME/SMI entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Transition towards a more inclusive Mali


Minister SANOU also indicated that: “The highest authorities of the Malian Transition are pleased with this good momentum of resumption of cooperation that opens up good prospects for support for the efforts of the Transitional Government by the ADB. He reaffirmed their commitment and readiness to continue and further strengthen the rich and dynamic cooperation relations with the African Development Bank.

Speaking on these projects, the representative of the African Development Bank in Mali Ms. Haly Louise Djoussou-Lorng suggested that the signing of these financing agreements between Mali and the ADB comes at a crucial and determining moment for Mali, namely the beginning of a transition aimed at creating new foundations for a more inclusive and re-engaged Mali.

And to close, the Minister of Economy and Finance gave assurances for a diligent implementation of the said projects or programs and with the desired governance through the scrupulous respect, on both sides, of the commitments defined in the various Agreements signed.
