The young South African Sello Medupe is the founder of the Scalo fashion house. He was invited to present his creations at the 2021 Emerge! exhibition. Fashion Show, which was held virtually on February 16 during New York Fashion Week (NYFW).
The Scalo brand created in 2009 is the work of Sello Medupe, born in Soweto, his creations are the fruit of passion combined with a lot of creativity.
Sello Medupe a designer who comes from afar
He is a young, modern and sophisticated fashion designer from the townships of Soweto. Scalo has been participating in Africa Fashion International since 2013. On the international scene, the brand was presented at the Fashion Week in Turin, Italy, in 2018 and 2019.
The brand, which today has distribution centers on three continents – Africa, America and Europe – enables it to reach a global clientele.
It is highly acclaimed by local South African celebrities of all stripes. The list of the latter is long:
- the former Miss SA Ntando Kunene at the Miss Universe contest;
- hip-hop sensation Cassper Nyovest at the MTV Africa Music Awards;
- model and reality TV star Blue Mbombo;
- actors Nandi Madida, Sindi Dlathu, Thembi Seete, Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa and Thando Thabethe;
- award-winning musician Lira;
- former Miss SA and first runner-up to Miss Universe Tamaryn Green;

Sello Medupe to EMERGE! Fashion show
The creator recently participated in the much-anticipated Emerge! Fashion Show 2021 which was in digital format and held live at a strategic moment where the public was particularly captive.
Each of the five selected stylists (two Africans and three Americans) can present a maximum of eight well-constructed looks of excellent quality.
The show was hosted by Claire Sulmers of Fashion Bomb Daily. The guest-star presenters were fashion heavyweights Andre Leon Talley and Fern Mallis.
