The National Electoral Commission (CEN) has just declared John Magufuli the winner of the October 25 electoral poll. Indeed, the outgoing president John Magufuli, known as “the Bulldozer”, was comfortably re-elected for a second presidential term with 84.39%.

A victory obtained with more than 12 million votes, against 2 million for his rival, Tundu Lissu, the main figure of the opposition. 

When I came to power in 2015, I found 2018 villages electrified, in the last 5 years, we managed to electrify 9700 villages, we built 1790 hospitals more than 10 airports bought more than 10 airplanes. Previously we have inaugurated a leather manufacturing plant. I request a second mandate to electrify the remaining 2500 villages…

The opposition called for new elections, the dismantling of the Electoral Commission and peaceful demonstrations. It contests the figures for Wednesday’s general elections released by the NEC.

According to the final results released on Friday, the ruling CCM won almost all of the 264 seats in parliament.
